The village of Harkerville was named after Robert Charles Harker, who was Government Resident in Plettenberg Bay from 1826 to 1847 controlling the affairs of the town for 21 years.
Surrounded by the Harkerville and Diepwalle Forest, and located midway between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, Harkerville offers easy access to both of these enchanting towns.

The Beaches

Some of the best beaches of the Garden Route are in a 15’ driving range from Edenbrook.
The long and wide beaches of Plettenberg Bay (including Robberg, Central Beach, Look Out and Keurbooms) or the Knysna Lagoons’ safe beaches of Leisure Island (Bollard Bay, Green Hole) as well as the pristine and fascinating sandy shore in the Noetzie Conservancy. Click here for directions.

Whale Watching  

Whale Watching

Close encounters with whales is almost certain from July to November. Dolphins, Seals Colonies and Seabirds watching can be experienced throughout the year.

Professional, safe and authorized boat tours are available either from Knysna or from Plettenberg Bay.

Besides the many bird species resident in the Edenbrook gardens (including the rare Knysna Loerie) the Knysna-Plettenberg Bay area is literally a paradise for bird watchers, due to the abundance of sea, river and forest birds that inhabit this region.

Some of the most enjoyable golf courses in the world are available in Knysna as well as in Plettenberg Bay: technique orientated, affordable or with breath taking Ocean views.

Equipment is available for hire in most of the golf clubs.

 

Horse Riding  

Horse Riding

Guided horse rides are available for the whole family, beginners or experienced riders.
Horseback rides through lovely indigenous forest giant sterlitzia, huge wild growing ferns, fynbos, small streams and mountain views.

One or two hours horse rides available.

 

Robberg Nature Reserve

A public institution with the statutory responsibility for biodiversity conservation in the Western Cape.

Enjoy a canoeing day at the Keurbooms River Nature Reserve (Double canoes can be hired from the reserve office. Paddles, lifejackets and helmets are provided free of charge) or a Hiking day at the breathtaking Robberg Nature Reserve.

 

Quad Biking

Quad bike enthusiast, adrenalin junkies and nature lovers can enjoy the guided trails.
All trails start on the man-made obstacle course to ensure riders are comfortable and feel at ease on the Quad bike.
The natural and man-made forest trail offers beautiful scenery.

 

Bungee Jumping  

Bungee Jumping

The ‘highest bungee jumping bridge’ in the world (The Bloukrans Bridge is 216 meters above the Bloukrans River), the Bloukrans Bungy is located 35km from Plettenberg Bay with direct access from the N2.

Open throughout the year, booking recommended.

A wonderful tradition! Spending a Saturday morning at the local farmers market, enjoying living food and a vibrant atmosphere is a real treat.
An enjoyable relaxing morning where locals meet to share a typical shopping experience. There is also a midweek market on Wednesdays in Plett.
